2017-18 Servant Leadership House Application

Applicants will need to submit basic information about themselves, answer two essay questions, submit their resumé and offer at least one reference.

SERVANT LEADERSHIP HOUSE CORE COMMITMENTS 
(see SL House Residents Guide for more details) 
1. SERVICE – The practice of seeking, knowing and doing the truth for the sake of the common good. 
2. LEADERSHIP – Exercised through building awareness and opportunities for others to grow in their capacity to serve the common good. 
3. COMMUNITY – Built on listening, self-reflection, empathy, cooperation and open inclusion. 

QUALIFICATION FOR ACCEPTANCE INTO THE SERVANT LEADERSHIP HOUSE: 
Credit Requirement: Applicants must have 30 credits earned before the 1st day of the semester for which you are applying.  
GPA Requirement: A 3.0 cumulative GPA must be earned at the time of application and maintained during residency.  
Community Service Requirement: Applicants must agree to participate in developing and executing community service goals for each semester and provide documentation of such service. All residents must sign and abide by the Servant Leadership House Core Commitments Residents Guide. 

The Servant Leadership House is a unique living and learning community for students who are committed to personal growth and servant leadership as a means of building a vibrant and caring community. The Servant Leadership House commitments accompany students in personal reflection and action through out-of-class learning that is relationship-driven, holistic and transformative.

Essay Prompt #1
Robert K. Greenleaf describes servant leadership as “a philosophy and set of practices that enriches the lives of individuals, builds better organizations and ultimately creates a more just and caring world.” Please provide a detailed description of a situation where you have demonstrated the qualities of a “servant leader.” *

Essay Prompt #2
Servant leadership…“ultimately creates a more just and caring world.” Describe a current social issue and some of the ways you might imagine playing a role in impacting that issue, working towards creating that “just and caring world.” *
